A little visit to the west.

Last week, I went on a little holiday and this year, I chose to go to the west. From my base in a rented cottage, my plan was to do a bunch of landscape shooting in the special and mountainous landscapes of western Norway. I hoped for changing weather and had packed all kinds of different films along with the Hasselblad and the Nikon F80. The first day started very promising, and it gave me the ever changing western Norwegian weather that I had been going for. I first set out in the morning, when the mist was thick and swiftly moving.

I loaded the Hasselblad with a roll of Ilford HP5 plus and attached a yellow filter to the front to get some extra contrast and separation in the forest. I also figured that I would have a lot of speed with the HP5, and I chose to pull it one stop to get a flatter negative and more to work with in the darkroom or in Lightroom. I then set out looking for shapes such as trees, and other interesting prominent dark spots. Since I was close to a skiing area, there were some ski-lifts that were rather interesting, and I figured I’d give them a try.

I also made a few compositions to try and show the mood of the morning, where you had very limited visibility and where the white mist was a huge part of the scene as a whole.

To my delight, the weather changed vastly over the course of the day, and the evening gave such an amazing light, and I chose to roll the Hasselblad once again, this time with a roll of Ilford Delta 100

This time, I went for a composition of the sunlight gently caressing a hill, and I made two different compositions of this hill, one quite close, and one with a little more foreground, also getting some more light. I am not sure which one I prefer, but I pick would probably be the bigger composition.

My attention then turned to the village behind the mountain, and I wanted to make a shot of the view including both the sky and some foreground. And after some attempts, I was able to get the composition I wanted.
